M11 Prerelease Events

Game Universe is holding five M11 prerelease events this weekend! Sealed events will be $25 and booster drafts will be $15. Events will be rounds of Swiss and further details are in the schedule below.

 

 

Greenfield - Saturday, July 10

Saturday at Greenfield will feature 2 Sealed events. The first will begin registering at 11 am and begins promptly at noon. The second will start at approximately 3 p.m. (after round 2 of the first Sealed event). A booster draft will start after the first Sealed event ends (typically around 6 p.m.)

Brookfield - Sunday, July 11

Sunday at Brookfield will kick off registration for a Sealed tournament at 11 am with parings going up at noon. A booster draft will begin after the Sealed event ends for those who wish to stay a bit later.

Cost, Prizes & Other Goodies

As always, Sealed events are $25 and drafts are $15. There will be M11 intro decks available for purchase at the events, and prize support will be in packs. The number of packs given out is dependant on the number of players, but the number will be approximately equal to 2 packs per player who registers in the event. If you have further questions, please feel free to call either store in the days leading up to the events. See you this weekend!

FNM at GU West!

Game Universe - West will be hosting Friday Night Magic (FNM) starting Dec 4th. We have foils and it’s obviously sanctioned and we’re sure we have the min of 8 players. Come on out and check out the competition! Starts at 5:30pm at the Brookfield store - call if you’re going to be late.

HUGE MTG PARTY - NOVEMBER 8th!

Game Universe is hosting a huge Magic the Gathering party November 8th, 2009 high noon at the South store on Hwy 100 & Layton.

The goal of this event is to achieve a 32+ player Standard event so we can become an Advanced Level store and thus get better prize support for future events. We will have access to the game room next door so there will be plenty of space. We will be giving away a ton of stuff and the entry fee will be kept dirt cheap!

FREE PIZZA plus EVERYONE who signs up to the Main Event gets a random free MTG foil card including many Day of Judgment and Path to Exile cards.

MAIN EVENT - STANDARD
- Only $8 entry fee
- 1st place wins a From the Vault Exiled box - $150 value!
- 2nd & 3rd place split a box of FIRST WAVE Zendikar boosters.
- 4th through 8th place prizes based on attendance.

SIDE EVENTS
- $25 Sealed (6 FIRST WAVE Zendikar boosters) events to get some practice for the PTQ
- $12 side drafts of FIRST WAVE Zendikar boosters will kick off as needed.

We have a verified sighting of a Candelabra of Tawnos pulled from a pack of Zendikar this weekend! A card included as a random treasure from the Wizard’s vault. An actual original print worth about $50. Congrats Travis!

Rather than answer questions piecemeal, and to give you the tools you need in your role as the talkers in your communities, here is the complete rundown of what I can say in regards to Zendikar…

Q: I heard that there are vintage cards in Zendikar boosters - is it correct?
A: Yes, certain authentic vintage cards have been inserted in some booster packs for Zendikar.

Q: Are the vintage cards real? Or are they reprints?
A: These cards are actual original cards, not reprints.

Q: How many vintage cards are in the set?
As a general policy, we don’t disclose collation for a given card set. There are over 90 different vintage cards.

Q: Why did Wizards insert vintage cards in Zendikar boosters?
A: The cards fit the game play and theme of the Zendikar set which is about ‘deadly perils and priceless treasures’.

Q: Which vintage cards did you insert?
Consistent with the game play and theme of the set, we included some of the most powerful cards in Magic’s history.

Q: Can I play these vintage cards in a tournament?
A: These vintage cards retain their current status in the tournament environment. They are allowed in certain organized play formats that can be found on www.magicthegathering.com.

Q: Are vintage cards inserted in all Zendikar boosters? Including reprints?
Vintage cards, like all cards in Magic, are not available in all packs. We do not disclose collation information.

Q: Are vintage cards inserted in Magic Online Zendikar boosters?
No. No vintage cards are inserted in Magic Online Zendikar boosters.
